Sources of advice

For reliable and unbiased advice try the suggested links on the front of the website. Be careful with websites that say they can ‘cure’ dyslexia or dyspraxia. They will be trying to sell you something.

Parents of school children should speak to their child’s class teacher or form tutor first. Every school should have a SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) or Inclusion Manager. Ask to speak to him/her if you are still concerned. The school may have a member of staff who is qualified to assess for learning difficulties.

Colleges and Universities will have a Disability Service. There should be contact details on the college/university website. Sometimes they are known as ‘Learning Development Services’. The staff will be able to give you advice on the services available.
